The chapel

From the French period (late 17th century) to the dawn of 2000, this area remained buried under tons of earth, aimed at reinforcing the powder depot's defenses. The excavation of this earth during the 1999 dig campaign brought to light two liturgical niches. Thanks to this major archaeological find, we can deduce that the castral chapel was located here. Furthermore, given that the La Roche inhabitants had used the castle as an open-air quarry in the 19th century, it's nothing short of a miracle to have found these two niches intact, one of which contains a liturgical washbasin.
